Leisure Time and Sports Activities in Edinburgh
by David Wheater of Tours of Edinburgh

There’s never any shortage of things to fill your leisure time with in Edinburgh. The city has some wonderful theatres and concert halls, and attracts world class musicians, plays and productions all year round.

If you’re into sports you’ll find high-quality gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts and football pitches all around the city. The City of Edinburgh Council itself runs several well-equipped gyms, swimming pools and sports centres, with very affordable access. Visit their website at http://www.edinburghleisure.co.uk.

With beautiful architecture, parks and gardens and the countryside just a short journey away, the city is a fantastic playground for runners, cyclists and anybody who enjoys the great outdoors. For a list of some of the best walks in and around the city, visit Walk Highlands at http://www.walkhighlands.co.uk/lothian/edinburgh.shtml.

With all this in mind, here’s a list of popular theatres, cinemas, gyms and sporting venues, amongst some other suggestions, to fill your leisure time with. I haven’t gone into too much detail, as there simply isn’t space! This list is just to make you aware of what’s available and to spark some ideas. Find out more from each website.
