A Guide to Pitlochry, Scotland

by David Wheater of Tours of Edinburgh

Here’s a brief guide to the history of Pitlochry, followed by some of the town’s most popular restaurants, pubs, coffee places, hotels, B&Bs and visitor attractions.

About Pitlochry

Pitlochry is a lovely small town, centrally located in Scotland, around an hour and a quarter north of Edinburgh. It‘s very conveniently located next to the A9 and makes a great stop over while travelling north, or a great base for exploring lovely Perthshire.

Pitlochry has been a popular holiday destination since the town gained popularity with the Victorians in the 18th century. One of its many attractions is its location next to the lovely River Tummel at the foot of Ben Vrackie, which are very popular with fishermen and walkers respectively. There are no shortage of great shops and places to eat in Pitlochry which also has some of the best B&B accommodation in Scotland.

Apart from the superb scenery, there’s always the chance of seeing some wonderful wildlife including the Red Squirrel, Ospreys and even a Golden Eagle. Pitlochry is a town brimming with events and festivals including the annual Pitlochry Etape Caledonia cycle race, The Pitlochry Highland Games and the Pitlochry Winter Words Festival. Seek and ye shall find!
